The Christchurch Vegetarian Centre is hosting an Indian Vegan Dinner and Cooking Demonstration at 7pm on Friday July 30th at the Horticultural Centre Hall on Riccarton Avenue. The CVC will cook your vegan dinner (sag aloo, dhal, rice and sides) whilst Dr Janaki Kandula, a well-known vegetarian who taught vegetarian cooking classes at Riccarton for six years, will show you how to make delicious Indian Roti (flat bread). 3) Vegetarian Children’s Chess Club
We are planning to set up a chess club for vegetarian children later this year; possibly on a Sunday morning every second month. The aim would be for the children to play against each other in a friendly environment and improve their chess. Beginners welcome. We also intend to have an experienced chess teacher come in occasionally to run workshops, for which there would be an extra charge. If this sounds like the kind of thing that your child would enjoy, please e-mail Francesca at Christchurch@vegetarianfamilies.org.nz as we need an idea of numbers before we book a venue.
4) AGM of The New Zealand Vegetarian Society Incorporated, Christchurch Branch - Notice is given for the Annual General Meeting for the New Zealand Vegetarian Society Incorporated, Christchurch Branch (the Christchurch Vegetarian Centre) to be held on Saturday August 7th at 2 pm at the St Albans Resource Centre, 1047 Colombo Street (near Edgeware Road). Munckins Bars
1 cup brown sugar
100g margarine
half a cup apricot jam
quarter cup golden syrup
3 cups oats
1 cup pumpkin seeds
1 teaspoon mixed spice
half cup sesame seeds
half cup coconut
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
1 cup raisins/sultanas (optional)
In a saucepan, melt together the sugar, marg, apricot jam and golden syrup.
Combine the rest of the ingredients in a big bowl. Mix well. Pour in melted mixture. Mix together.
Press mixture firmly into a greased 20 by 30cm biscuit tin. Bake at 180C for 25 min or until golden.
Cool slightly and cut into bars.
