Welcome Chinese Reviews
Welcome Chinese Vegetarian Food
Welcome Vegetarian is where I’ve spent many a night devouring their tasty food in their cozy restaurant in Riccarton. One sign that I’ve been there too much (although could anyone ever go there too much?) is that they know my voice on the phone and know that I can’t do without their home made soy mayonnaise!
Their menu boasts over 100 dishes, mostly based on soy protein and miengen but they come in a variety of dishes – soups, rice dishes, hot plates, noodle dishes, and vegetable or tofu dishes. The prices are very affordable with entrees around $3.50 and mains varying from $8-$12 (more for larger sizes but the regular size is plenty). As for their entrees, the wontons are fantastic and it is a novelty to get hot chips that are guaranteed not to be cooked with non-vegetarian foods.
My favourite mains are the black pepper circular delight (very tasty soy protein dish), cheeky nuggets’ (savoury peppered crispy nuggets) and any of the ‘soysage’ (soy sausage) dishes. The vast majority of the food is vegan and any non-vegan dishes are obvious as the name of the dish includes egg or ice cream, etc.
There are several desserts to choose from including the healthy fruit salad, the intriguing deep fried banana and the rather different red bean soup. Welcome is staffed by friendly people which also (apart from the food) makes you want to return time and time again.
