1) Radio Vega, Our very own Vegetarian Radio Programme and Podcast, will be broadcasting this coming Friday 3rd September at 9.30am on Plains FM, 96.9. This months very busy show features chats with the Vegetarian Youth Group, the Enviro Schools group from Discovery 1 and Dr Janaki Kandula who is giving a cooking demonstration at this year's Vegetarian Expo in Christchurch. Plus a delicious Vegan Sausage Roll recipe :-). Radio Vega also has its very own facebook page now, so you can become a fan and receive updates, links and join the online group!
2) Youth Group Vegetarian Sausage Sizzle at Ferrymead Mitre 10 Mega, this Saturday 4 September, between 10am and 4pm. Please come and support us, as you did in June - it was a fantastic venue and the sausages sold out. $3 a sausage with bread, optional onions and sauce. See you there!
3) Family Group Meeting. The Vegetarian Family Group will be gathering for fun and vegan morning tea at 10am on Sunday 5th September at the Shirley Play Centre, 61 Chancellor Street. Come and join us!
4) Card and logo designer needed. Either or is fine! We are looking for a designer for a logo for our op shop/market stall, and also for cards to sell as a fundraiser for the Vegetarian Centre. Basic Roast Recipe
This appeared on the VegFamily Chat group this week and was highly successful in some households!

PROTEIN – 2 Cups
Beans
Lentils
Tofu
TVP
CARBOHYDRATES – ¾ - 1 Cup
Whole wheat bread crumbs
Bread stuffing- Dried
Uncooked oatmeal
Cooked brown rice
Crushed corn flakes
Bulgar wheat, soaked
NUTS – ½ Cup chopped or ground
Peanuts – Raw
Cashews – Raw
Almonds
Walnuts
Sunflower Seeds
BINDING
3 T Potato flour
2 T Soy flour
½ cup cooked Oatmeal
½ cup cooked cream of wheat
2 eggs
LIQUID 1- 1 ½ cups as needed
Tomato juice
Tomato sauce
Milk
Soy milk
Vegetable broth
VEGETABLES ½- ¾ cup for flavouring and texture
Onions – chopped
Spring onions chopped
Celery
SEASONING - ¼ t herbs 1 or more
Sage
Sweet basil
Thyme
Rosemary
Italian seasoning
Parsley
Bouquet garni
Cumin
Oregano
SALTY SEASONING (Optional)
Salt
Soy sauce
Garlic salt
Celery salt
FAT 2 T
Olive oil
vegetable oil
margarine
Mix together. Press into an oiled loaf pan. Bake 45 min at 350 F (175C) Serve with light sauce or gravy if desired.
