Dream Garden Reviews
Dream Garden
This charming Chinese teahouse specialises in teas and other drinks (57 different varieties) but also serves vegetarian meals and snacks. The ambience is very welcoming and relaxed with sofas and a wood burner and seems deservedly popular with Asian students.
The drinks available range from green tea and jasmine tea to those exotically named such as blossom girl, mandarin calpis and Finland juice. Many are described on the menu as milk teas, for example strawberry milk tea, but the milk is soy milk. Most drinks are available hot or cold and our party sampled mandarin tea, jasmine tea with pearls, autumn tea and Finland juice. This last contained soy milk and we found all four to be very good or excellent. There are also pudding teas (containing custard powder). No alcohol is served.
The food is almost all vegan (a couple of dishes include eggs). The main meals comprise rice and noodle dishes, tofu dishes and miengen (gluten mock meat) dishes. We shared and particularly enjoyed the flavoursome spicy steam pot which included vegetables, tofu and miengen. Prices are very reasonable.
Snacks include a variety of toasts made with extra thick slices of bread and various spreads including peanut butter and coconut butter.
We have found the Dream Garden to be such an enjoyable experience that we have returned regularly. It is to be recommended for vegetarians and vegans.
